ABOUT US

The Penhale Fund

The original Penhale Society ran Sheltered Living homes for the elderly in Morecambe and Heysham and sold the properties that they owned when the homes closed. The resulting income has been invested, creating the Penhale Fund, which is administered by Joseph A Jones Solicitors and overseen by a board of trustees.

Founded by Alderman Raymond Penhale in 1960, the Society in its first 60 years provided sheltered accommodation for older people. Initially, as part of the Abbeyfield Society, but independently since the 1990’s, the Society offered subsidised sheltered accommodation in Morecambe and Heysham. In the 2020’s, the Society found that demand for their style of accommodation declined as older people accessed care in their own homes. In 2023, the Society sold its properties and with a new Board of Trustees decided to focus its efforts on supporting the local area by becoming a grant giving charity with the establishment of the Penhale Fund.
